I’ve seen nothing about here about the new Ford Focus, so here it is. As hatchback and wagon. Some markets require a sedan and I’m sure that will be released sometime as well, I just haven’t seen it yet. There is a version with cheap unpainted tough looking plastic cladding as well. edit: sedan added.

The front looks good, and nicely fits with the new Fiesta. The rear and window lines of the hatch are a bit generic though, almost Hyundai/Kia like. Maybe that’s because it’s the first Focus hatch without a C/D pillar window.

Hope they wont sell too many of the Subaru XV  plastic bits version here.

I wonder if it will be awd with that cladding. Maybe they saw the crazy success Subaru is having with the Crosstrek and just decided to copy it.

Oh good, they finally made the doors on the Veloster symmetrical.

...and now Ford is getting lazy with the Focus and simply using Mazda Styling.

Many of the people on here aren’t awake yet!

Do you notice how all the registration numbers are chosen so that they can still be read if you reverse the pictures? 180 VIA becomes AIV 081 and so on.

The wheels on that brown wagon (estate in Euro-English?) are gorgeous.

I had not noticed, but that’s a great observation! For RHD markets I imagine. They will still have to ‘shop the F O C U S letters and the Ford logos though.

In the US? You’re more likely to get the plastic clad one, or the shorter/taller/fatter one (Escape).

The Focus will offer all the range the new Fiesta does with options of Active, Zetec, St-Line, Vignale and later the ST.

With all these options, parts are going to be high for sometime as some parts will be model specific.

... maybe it’ll look better in person.

The hatchback looks exceedingly like a hatchback. Not bad, but it’s a very safe design. The wagon... Maybe it’s the angle, maybe it’s the color, but it looks like a warm brown turd. There had better be a v6 under the hood to justify that front overhang.

I’m feelin pretty flaccid, to be honest.

That rising body line on the hatchback looks oddly truncated, almost like they designed the wagon first.

Even better, it’ll be made as a manual diesel!

It’s right on the edge where I’m not sure if it looks great, or so much like every other hatch on the market that I couldn’t really care about it. There’s a lot of Subaru, Mazda, Kia, Hyundai  generic hatchback in the design, but overall not a bad looking car. I’m sure it’ll grow on me a little and the ST/RS versions will probably look great.

I’m Greyed, so I don’t bother, but there’s someone on the FP who keeps saying that ST-line is the new FoST and is also saying those original Hungarian spy shots were also the FoST. ST Line /= ST and they don’t have a clue of what they are on about

Why is the nose so long? The wheels seem to be way back from the point they should be.

Then again, for reasons I can’t quite put my finger on, the cabin looks like it is from an SUV/CUV and the hood is from a much shorter car. Mine looks like a minivan, this one just looks ungainly in the front and generically Korean/Kodo in the rear. Something about the overall modern design combined with too vertical a windshield relative to the hood.

On the other hand, I think the interior is dramatically better than the current one, at least in pictures.

I’m seeing a lot of Forte5 and MB A in it, with some GLA and/or Crosstrek added in the Active version.

Seeing a lot of Hyundai here and Mazda 3 in the shoulder lines. Not a fan, Ford does bolder design well but they went for bland here.

There is definitely some Mazda 3 in the lines on the sides of the car.

Probably shortly after it’s delivered at dealerships.

At my last job they had a whole fleet of Focus wagons (and Megane wagons). Many many dozens, maybe hundreds. All wagon/diesel/manual obviously. I had one as a company car too.

Mein Beileid. Colleagues from Baden Württemberg had a base model Focus wagon which was their boss’ at a seminar. The interior is downright awful and the rear legroom (even for a short guy like me) not enough. Still a popular fleet choice.

04/10/2018 at 12:45

I actually had enough rear legroom? I’ve been a passenger in Focii of colleagues.

Anyway, I did get a 2013 ‘Titanium’, which could park itself (I still had to shift/clutch/accelerate) among other things.

Seeing a lot of Mazda and Kia in those designs.

Not a bad thing, as those are handsome cars, but it isn’t strongly “Ford”.

Then again, they change design languages, what, every 5 years or so?

Hm, the front seat must’ve been all the way back.

Titanium is the highest trim level below the ST, right? Not too bad.

More!

Write up is coming soon. Overall I liked it. Seats were supportive. Good brakes and suspension. Torquey for a small engine (though it also isn’t lugging much). Only downside is infotainment shows its age and the clutch had zero feedback., though I’m not sure if that was due to how new it was, the normal function of the clutch or just new clutches in general. I hadn’t really thought about it but other than the A1 the newest manual I’ve driven was a 80s pickup and the ‘80 911.
